It’s officially lobster roll season. Who makes the best in the Bradenton area?

With Florida temperatures soaring this time of year, the good news is it’s also the best time to get a New England favorite: the lobster roll.

While Bradenton is no Bar Harbor, there are a few eateries in the area that serve the popular crustacean sandwich.

Traditionally, lobster rolls are enjoyed as a summer dish in two iconic styles: New England and Connecticut.

The New England-style roll is prepared with cold lobster meat, tossed in mayo, tarragon and celery or scallions on top of a buttered roll lightly toasted on its sides.

Connecticut-style rolls are made with hot lobster meat and topped with warm butter.

Before we get into a debate on which is better, the Bradenton Herald wants to hear from you about who has the best rolls in Manatee County.

Lobster season in Maine is currently at its peak, and it spans from late June to November. New England lobstermen are pulling in some of the largest and sweetest lobster of the year and shipping them all over, including to Florida.

So, if you never tried a lobster roll before and want to find out what the hype is all about or just want to take a nostalgic bite, now is a better time than ever.

Florida is also known for its fresh lobster but the difference between Maine lobster and Florida spiny lobster is visually apparent. Maine lobsters have large claws and smaller tails while Florida lobsters have no claws and large tails.

The taste of each lobster is also different because of the water climate they’re in — the cold waters of Maine prevent their lobsters from absorbing a lot of salt-producing sweeter-tasting meat. While the warm waters of Florida cause its lobster to taste brinier.

Nonetheless, lobster rolls can be made out of Florida lobster too.
