There are few things better than dessert following Thanksgiving dinner. That’s especially true if there’s a traditional family recipe that you look forward to every year.

With that said, we doubt any dessert that was consumed at most Thanksgivings looked nearly as cool as or tasted as good as the cake Max Scherzer and his family will be enjoying this weekend. In fact, the Washington Nationals right-hander received a cake fit only for a man of his elite stature as a three-time Cy Young Award winner.

According to Scherzer himself, the cake was shipped special from Fredericksburg Cupcake in Northern Virginia. It celebrates all three of his Cy Young wins. The first came with the Detroit Tigers in 2014. The past two have come with the Nationals in 2016 and now 2017.

Yes, it is an edible cake, though we’d understand why Scherzer wouldn’t be in a hurry to cut into it. It’s so well designed that we wouldn’t want to destroy it either. At the same time, it does look pretty delicious. When there’s a cake on the table, one can’t stare at it for too long without getting hungry.

Unfortunately for the rest of us, we only get pictures of it. For Scherzer though, the thought of receiving another cake like it next year might be just enough extra motivation to win another Cy Young. Then again, he’s probably thinking of something much bigger and much better, like a World Series cake for example.
