Michelle Obama, Stephen Curry join in on praise for LeBron James' 'I Promise' school opening
LeBron James joined the opening of his Akron, Ohio elementary school for at-risk youth on Monday, a project that was made possible through the LeBron James Family Foundation.
Obamas join LeBron James’ peers in praise for school
While students walked in awe of their new public school, James has been heaped with praise from his NBA peers and now former First Lady Michelle Obama for the program that promises job assistance for the parents of students, college tuition for graduates, meals and even free bikes.
.@BarackObama and I are so proud of @KingJames and @IPROMISESchool. Kids in Akron and across the US are lucky to have you as a role model on and off the court. Keep using your platform for good and giving our kids a chance to shoot for the stars. 🌟🏀 #ReachHigher #BetterMakeRoom pic.twitter.com/hyS6UM2A7b

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry may be one of James’ biggest rivals on the court, but he knows good work when he sees it.
Freaking amazing! 👏🏽👏🏽 https://t.co/s82hufUHZA

Meanwhile, James’ longtime friends Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade publicly praised him for his remarkable community effort.
.@kingjames CONGRATULATIONS my brother!!! You are a man of your word! Proud of you for chasing your dreams and in turn, giving the opportunity to hundreds of kids to realize theirs. ✊🏾#BiggerThanBasketball pic.twitter.com/WlhrUwyMli

As did brief former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Isaiah Thomas.

James, meanwhile, made sure that the Obamas’ shout-out didn’t go unnoticed.
To you @MichelleObama & @BarackObama THANK YOU!!! 🙏🏾 @IPROMISESchool #IPROMISE https://t.co/eFulE2AgaS

James has received a lot of attention for his school opening and rightfully so. Regardless of your thoughts on him as a basketball player, there’s no reasonable criticism of his community outreach.
