Michigan State football lands transfer LB Jacoby Windmon from UNLV

Already this season, the Michigan State football team has had nine players enter the transfer portal and, until Wednesday, had secured just one in return.

But its second portal addition appears to be a big one.

The Spartans on Wednesday landed one of the most sought-after transfers available as UNLV linebacker Jacoby Windmon announced on Twitter he was committing to MSU.

"Born to lose but I gotta win, stayed down beat the odds im thanking God again," Windmon tweeted, along with tagging coach Mel Tucker and a graphic showing his commitment to MSU.

Windmon visited MSU last weekend and sat next to Tucker at the Spartans' basketball game vs. Toledo. It was reported by 247 Sports that Windmon had more than 15 offers, including from Texas, Missouri, TCU, Houston, Iowa State, Minnesota, Kansas State, Louisville, Indiana, Maryland and Kansas.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder was ranked as a top-15 transfer prospect by 247, thanks in large part to a monster junior season in which Windmon finished this past season with 118 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 6 sacks and 2 forced fumbles.

The commitment helps shore up the depth in the linebacking corps, which saw Chase Kline enter the portal during the season.

Windmon started as a defensive lineman at UNLV in 2019, and started all six games at that position in 2020, tallying 39 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Windmon, like MSU breakout star Kenneth Walker III, was lightly recruited coming out of high school. He was a three-star prospect out of Louisiana and had no Power Five offers.

MSU's other incoming transfer for 2022 is former Wisconsin running back Jalen Berger, who announced his plan to move to East Lansing late last month.
