Netflix Departures October 2019
Every time I realize that the iconic and delightful Sex and the City spinoff series The Carrie Diaries only lasted two seasons, I shed a tear. Now, Netflix is adding to my daily mourning by removing The Carrie Diaries from its platform come October (along with some other classic teen dramedies, like The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants one and two).
It’s a double whammy of disappointment, because The Carrie Diaries deserved at least one or two more seasons, and also I should be allowed to rewatch the little we’ve been given on Netflix over and over again until the end of time. The short-lived CW series starred AnnaSophia Robb as a teenage Carrie Bradshaw who had amazing friends like Mouse (Ellen Wong), Walt (Brendan Dooling), and Maggie (Katie Findlay) — and a crush on the moody and broody Sebastian Kydd (Austin Butler, of course). Her nemesis, the incredible Donna LaDonna, was played by Chloe Bridges, and let us never forget Carrie’s wild magazine editor Larissa Loughlin (Freema Agyeman).
Look, all I’m saying is that The Carrie Diaries deserves a reboot with the same cast, as if no time has passed. Did Carrie gallivanting around New York with her cool job at Interview magazine make me also move to NYC? Yes. Am I ashamed of that? No. In conclusion, everything on Netflix should stay exactly as it is and nothing in this life should ever change and I hope there’s an alternate universe where The Carrie Diaries got as many seasons as One Tree Hill (read: too many).
