Dec 1 (Reuters) - Japan's Nomura Holdings on Friday said it has appointed former UK treasury official Tom Scholar as non-executive chair of its European division.

Scholar will succeed David Godfrey as chair of Nomura Holdings plc (NEHS), Nomura International plc (NIP) and Nomura Bank International plc (NBI) from April 10, 2024, the company said in a statement.

Godfrey will step down from the boards of NEHS, NIP and NBI after nine years with the investment bank, the statement added.

"He (Scholar) has had a long and distinguished career in the British Civil Service and Nomura will no doubt benefit from his extensive knowledge and understanding of the financial sector," Nomura CEO Kentaro Okuda said.

Scholar was the UK finance ministry's top civil servant until he was ousted when Liz Truss became prime minister last year. (Reporting by Utkarsh Shetti in Bengaluru; Editing by Varun H K)
