Orion Insiders Added US$653.2k Of Stock To Their Holdings

In this article:

Usually, when one insider buys stock, it might not be a monumental event. But when multiple insiders are buying like they did in the case of Orion S.A. (NYSE:OEC), that sends out a positive message to the company's shareholders.

While we would never suggest that investors should base their decisions solely on what the directors of a company have been doing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Orion Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by CEO & Executive Director Corning Painter for US$324k worth of shares, at about US$21.59 per share. That means that an insider was happy to buy shares at around the current price of US$22.40. Of course they may have changed their mind. But this suggests they are optimistic. While we always like to see insider buying, it's less meaningful if the purchases were made at much lower prices, as the opportunity they saw may have passed. In this case we're pleased to report that the insider purchases were made at close to current prices.

Over the last year, we can see that insiders have bought 28.80k shares worth US$653k. On the other hand they divested 2.51k shares, for US$67k. Does Orion Boast High Insider Ownership?

Looking at the total insider shareholdings in a company can help to inform your view of whether they are well aligned with common shareholders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 2.9% of Orion shares, worth about US$38m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.
