Editor's Note
The Law Journal’s New Partners Yearbook each winter takes stock of new partners made and hired laterally at New Jersey firms and branches over the course of the preceding year. Included here are 142 such partners, with some biographical information about each one. As always, it’s interesting to see how varied their backgrounds and experiences are. All, obviously, are valuable to their law firms. Congratulations to them.
Speaking of backgrounds, what of diversity? A cursory review reveals that a little less than 40 percent of the partners listed here are women. That’s slightly better than the national numbers recently reported by The American Lawyer (37 percent). But with men and women entering law school in roughly equal numbers for the past decade, should partnership ranks be more even by gender? Racial and ethnic diversity, too, is something monitored by the firms themselves, bar associations, us in the legal media, and elsewhere. Reports are that partnership ranks nationally have about 9 percent minority attorneys for 2018. Again by cursory review, that proportion is pretty close to what we see here.
So we hope this yearbook is means to recognize these lawyers for their accomplishments and also an opportunity to continue the conversation on the future of the legal profession. We’ll be listening, and we hope to hear from you.
