OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) _ Quarterhill Inc. (QTRH) on Thursday reported first-quarter net income of $29,000, after reporting a loss in the same period a year earlier.

The Ottawa, Ontario-based company said it had net income of less than 1 cent on a per-share basis.

The patent holding company posted revenue of $39.8 million in the period.

The company's shares closed at $1.08. A year ago, they were trading at $1.55.
