Quite a few insiders invested in Cytosorbents Corporation (NASDAQ:CTSO) last year which is positive news for shareholders

In this article:

Generally, when a single insider buys stock, it is usually not a big deal. However, when several insiders are buying, like in the case of Cytosorbents Corporation (NASDAQ:CTSO), it sends a favourable message to the company's shareholders.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

Cytosorbents Insider Transactions Over The Last Year

The CEO & Director Phillip Chan made the biggest insider purchase in the last 12 months. That single transaction was for US$60k worth of shares at a price of US$1.70 each. We do like to see buying, but this purchase was made at well below the current price of US$3.50. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

We saw some Cytosorbents insider buying shares in the last three months. CEO & Director Phillip Chan shelled out US$38k for shares in that time. It's good to see the insider buying, as well as the lack of recent sellers. However, in this case the amount invested recently is quite small.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Insiders own 9.1% of Cytosorbents shares, worth about US$14m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

What Might The Insider Transactions At Cytosorbents Tell Us?

Insider purchases may have been minimal, in the last three months, but there was no selling at all. The net investment is not enough to encourage us much. However, our analysis of transactions over the last year is heartening. Insiders do have a stake in Cytosorbents and their transactions don't cause us concern. While we like knowing what's going on with the insider's ownership and transactions, we make sure to also consider what risks are facing a stock before making any investment decision.
