After losing in the Super Bowl, the Los Angeles Rams found their one missing piece Monday: Blake Bortles. The 26-year-old Bortles agreed to a one-year deal with the team.

In his five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Bortles’ career has been filled with extreme highs and lows. He threw 35 touchdowns during his sophomore season, and was able to help lead the Jaguars to the AFC Championship in 2017, but he was never a consistent player.
Interceptions have been a major issue for Bortles. He’s thrown 75 interceptions in 75 games during his career. He’s also struggled with accuracy, completing just under 60 percent of his passes. When the Jaguars were struggling last season, Bortles was benched in favor of Cody Kessler.
Bortles’ high draft status — he was the No. 3 overall pick by the Jaguars in the 2014 NFL draft — made him an easy punching bag in Jacksonville. It’s possible a change of scenery, and the chance to work with a talented offensive head coach, could get him back on track.
Rams coach Sean McVay was able to get Jared Goff turned around after Goff turned in an awful rookie season. It’s possible McVay can find a way to unlock some of Bortles’ potential as well.
Bortles likely won’t see the field much next season, but any improvements he can make behind the scenes would go a long way toward keeping him in the league.
