Robyn is a remarkable individual who’s life experiences have helped her master the art of team building and peak performance. With her innovative strategies and the "8 Essential Elements of Extreme Performance," she has guided numerous teams to conquer their most daunting challenges and achieve breakthrough results. Recognized as one of the world's top keynote speakers, Robyn's expertise in leadership, team building, and extreme performance has made her a sought-after figure for global business leaders and Fortune 500 companies who seek to inspire a culture of continuous improvement, connection, innovation, and unwavering commitment to their goal and to each other.

What sets Robyn apart is her ability to draw insights from her experiences in Adventure Racing and firefighting, where moments of extreme challenge and change are frequent. She understands that these moments, rather than being roadblocks, can be transformative opportunities if approached with the right mindset and strategies. Through her keynote presentations and teachings, Robyn empowers leaders to lead their teams through change, build a culture of resilience, and embrace challenges as springboards for growth.

A pivotal moment in Robyn's journey occurred when her Adventure Racing team won the Raid Gauloises World Championships in Ecuador. This victory drew the attention of Fast Company Magazine, leading to a feature story titled "Extreme Teamwork." The article aimed to explore the secrets of high-performing "extreme teams" and provide insights that could be applied to fast-moving companies. The article was a big hit, and readers wanted more. As the newest member of the team featured in the article, Robyn unexpectedly found herself becoming a motivational speaker, sharing her team's experiences in winning “The World’s Toughest Race” and the principles of exceptional teamwork.

Robyn's first speaking engagement was at the Realtime conference organized by Fast Company Magazine. Initially scared, she seized the opportunity and presented the "8 Essential Elements of Human Synergy, utilizing TEAMWORK as an acronym to describe the building blocks of a World Class Team culture— Total Commitment, Empathy and Awareness, Adversity Management, Mutual Respect, We Thinking (versus “me” thinking), Ownership of Results, Relinquishment of Ego, and Kinetic Leadership" This presentation resonated deeply, particularly with a Zone Vice President from Starbucks who attended the event. Impressed by Robyn's insights, the VP invited her to speak to Starbucks store managers, launching a 15-city tour. This experience reaffirmed Robyn's belief in the power of team building and inspired her mission to spread the gospel of "Winning as One" in all aspects of life.

At the core of Robyn's approach to building world-class teams is the importance of creating human synergy within teams. She emphasizes the need to foster a culture where team members are not just working WITH one another but FOR one another. Collaboration, trust, mutual respect, and a shared sense of purpose are key elements in building a team that thrives amidst challenges and change. Robyn's own experiences as a full-time Firefighter and World Champion Adventure Racer have reinforced these principles, where trust and cooperation are vital for success.

As an example of Robyn’s teams’ unique approach to Teambuilding and “We Thinking”, Robyn’s Adventure Racing team was the first in the sport to find a faster, more efficient way forward on the course as a team: a literal towline, consisting of a light bungee cord with carabiners on either end. This tow line would be attached between team members so that they could capitalize on one another’s strengths, and get much-needed support from the team during their challenges. And the “tow-er” and “tow-ee” would change constantly, based upon who was strongest at the moment (ie as they changed sports) or who needed a little extra support to lighten their load or boost their spirit. The best part? Tow lines created consistent world-class results (Robyn's team placed Top 5 at the World Championships for 10 years). As Robyn shares in her keynotes “In the business world (and in our lives), if we truly think as “We” and leave our egos at the start line, we can discover all kinds of ways to throw a tow line to a teammate in our areas of strength, or to grab a tow line from a teammate when we need their expertise and support. Because grabbing a tow line from a teammate should never be seen as a weakness, it should be understood that that’s how we WIN.”

Another key aspect of Robyn's approach is her emphasis on goal setting. She encourages teams to set audacious goals and believes that a shared sense of purpose can ignite exceptional performance. By setting the bar high and building a world class team of people with different strengths and talents, teams are more likely to push beyond their limits and achieve remarkable outcomes.

Robyn's unique approach to team building also places a strong focus on resilience and adaptability. She teaches teams to view challenges and change not as obstacles but as opportunities for growth. Rather than trying to hold a position and “not lose” during times of change, she encourages leaders to focus on the creativity it will take to win instead, use these challenging moments as springboards for innovation and improvement. This mindset shift enables teams to embrace change, and adapt quickly to new circumstances.

Robyn's own experiences with setbacks and personal challenges have shaped her approach to team building. After years of competing at the highest levels in the multisport world, she discovered that she had stage 4 Osteoarthritis in both hips, and faced multiple hip replacements. But she refused to be defined by her setbacks and instead focused on her comeback. She emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive mindset, focusing on what CAN be done rather than what cannot. By harnessing the power of resilience and determination, Robyn transformed her own setbacks into stories of triumph after her first hip replacement by setting 2 new Guinness World Record records for ultra-distance kayaking. She then became a CNN Hero for founding The Project Athena Foundation, a 501c3 non profit that helps Survivors of medical or traumatic setbacks create their own amazing comeback stories through adventure and endurance sports.

In a world where teams face constant change and evolving challenges, Robyn Benincasa's methodology of team building and improving performance is invaluable. Her keynotes, based upon her stories and insights drawn from the worlds of adventure racing and firefighting, provide an inspiring and entertaining roadmap for leaders to foster collaboration, innovation, and resilience within their teams. By embracing the principles of human synergy and adopting a mindset of continuous improvement and innovation, teams can cross their own finish lines and achieve extraordinary results. Robyn's authentic approach serves as a guiding light for leaders seeking to navigate the ever-changing landscape of business and unleash the full potential of their teams.
