Rodarte Will Show Its Fall 2019 Collection in Los Angeles
In Pasadena, to be exact.
After staging a romantic (yet rainy) return to New York Fashion Week last fall, designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy will host Rodarte's Fall 2019 runway show in their hometown of Los Angeles — Pasadena, to be exact — first reported by Vogue.com. Though an exact date has not been confirmed, we expect it to happen ahead of the women's shows in New York, possibly between late January and early February.
"California is one of our most important influences and having our first show in Los Angeles is a dream we've long wished to make reality," said the Mulleavy in a statement. The new collection will be presented alongside the debut of JNSQ wine (short for je ne sais quoi) and the launch of its rosé cru. Wine and fashion — what a treat!
The Mulleavys have jumped around a bit when it comes to their show schedule. In 2017, the designers announced they would drop out of the traditional calendar to align future runway shows with Couture Fashion Week in January and July. Then, Rodarte presented a star-studded Fall 2018 lookbook in lieu of a runway show, followed by its return to the States — and to New York Fashion Week — in September.
However, it seems that staying local is an obvious fit for Rodarte, especially since the CFDA has been ramping up its support for LA-based designers over the past two years. And let's not forget the defection to the West Coast in February 2017, when a slew of designers — both local and visiting — decided to hold runway shows and events in the sunny California city. Though we won't be able to see Rodarte's new collection on the runway in New York, chances are we'll see plenty of it on the red carpet during awards season next year — another convenient bonus to moving their show much closer to Hollywood.
