Sanford Health's Karla Eischens ranks among top rural hospital CEOs to know

Mar. 25—BEMIDJI — Becker's Hospital Review has named Karla Eischens, President and CEO of Sanford Health in Bemidji, among its 2024 list of

"110 rural hospital and health system CEOs to know."

According to a release, the list features executives from across the nation who are committed to expanding hospital service lines, renovating and improving their facilities, and hiring talented team members. Becker's praises these CEOs for leading through the Covid-19 pandemic and national staffing shortages to create sustainable models for continued success.

Eischens has more than 25 years of experience in health care as a pharmacist and leader, focusing on the needs of employees, patients and the communities that Sanford Health serves.

"Under her leadership, Sanford Bemidji took a pivotal step toward fostering cultural change within the organization by integrating cultural training courses into all employees' annual education to discuss the intersection of Ojibwe culture and health care," the release said.

The hospital also initiated leadership meetings with local tribal governments and community leaders to discuss opportunities to improve health disparities among Native American-identifying patients.
