Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is planning to open a second headquarters in North America.

The second Amazon headquarters is going to go by “HQ2.” The company says that this won’t be a satellite facility, but rather an equal to its current headquarters in Seattle, Wash. It also notes that it will be investing $5 billion into its creation.

Amazon HQ2 will house 50,000 employees. The company says that it will be allowing employees at its current headquarters to decide which location they will want to work at once the second one is complete. AMZN also says that the development of the facility will results in tens of thousands of additional jobs.

The online retailers is currently scouting out cities where it may build its second quarters. Here are its preferences.

  • “Metropolitan areas with more than one million people

  • A stable and business-friendly environment

  • Urban or suburban locations with the potential to attract and retain strong technical talent

  • Communities that think big and creatively when considering locations and real estate options.”

While not necessary, Amazon says that it would also like to find a location that can mimic its Seattle headquarters, already has a development-prepped site and is in an urban or downtown location.

The company now has its “Amazon HQ2 Request for Proposal” available on its website. This allows state and local government leaders to contact the company and suggest sites for the second headquarter’s location.

AMZN stock was up 1% as of Thursday morning and is up 30% year-to-date.
