Sheetz is rolling back gas prices to celebrate Independence Day — way, way back.

The Altoona, Pennsylvania-based gas station and convenience store chain will cut its gas prices to $1.776 per gallon for many, but not all, of its fuel types Tuesday while promotional gallons last.

The price is a reference to 1776, the year the Continental Congress approved the Declaration of Independence.

The fuels getting the lower price are regular, E85 (flex fuel), Unleaded 88, mid-grade and premium fuel grades at all of Sheetz 675-plus locations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. The lower price will not apply to diesel fuel or fuel free of ethanol.

The average price of gas in Ohio today is $3.291 a gallon, according to AAA, so the $1.776 price is a big savings.
