NEW YORK (AP) _ Stemline Therapeutics Inc. (STML) on Friday reported a loss of $27.4 million in its first quarter.

On a per-share basis, the New York-based company said it had a loss of 73 cents.

The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of five analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 67 cents per share.

The biopharmaceutical company posted revenue of $5 million in the period, surpassing Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.6 million.

Stemline Therapeutics shares have risen 69% since the beginning of the year. The stock has dropped 13% in the last 12 months.
