A street in Wales has just been named the Steepest Street in the World
Ffordd Pen Llech Street in North Wales has been named the Steepest Street in the World by the Guinness World Records, taking the title away from a street in New Zealand.
The meandering street, in the idyllic town of Harlech, Gwyneed, has been given the gradient of 37.45%, making it the steepest in the word. Challenging the fittest walkers and hikers, the steep street is a test for all who attempt to climb it.

Last year's award went to Baldwin Street in Dunedin, New Zealand, with a gradient of 35%. While many thought Baldwin Street would claim the title for the second year running, the Welsh street beat them to the top — and residents are rejoicing. The community hope the award will bring in tourists from around the world.
Gwyn Headley, who led the town's campaign to claim the title, told the Guardian: "I feel utter relief and jubilation. I feel sorry for the New Zealanders, but steeper is steeper."
"Guinness World Records was ultra-specific in the criteria demanded for it to qualify as the steepest street in the world, and although we were confident in meeting or exceeding nine of them, we were worried about the 10th," continues Gwyn.
To qualify for the award, the street had to be used regularly by members of the public and also have cars driving through it.

As well as 300-year-old houses at the bottom of Ffordd Pen Llech Street, the road is regularly used by people visiting the town's ancient castle which sits at the top. Plus, those who make it to the top will have the chance to stop for a refreshing beverage at a small coffee shop.
