The Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had net income of $1.60 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were 93 cents per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 79 cents per share.

The energy company posted revenue of $10.39 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $8.46 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $6.14 billion, or $4.69 per share. Revenue was reported as $37.59 billion.
