Why Meghan and Harry May Skip the Oscars Despite Scoring an Invite
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were reportedly invited to the 2022 Academy Awards tonight, but TBD on if they actually attend because apparently Spencer is causing some tension. The Kristen Stewart film about Princess Diana’s life is nominated for several major awards, which means running into the cast and crew is inevitable…a slightly awkward possibility considering Prince Harry reportedly wasn’t a fan of the movie.
A source tells OK!, “He’s pretty appalled by the film. [Meghan and Harry] have been invited to all the big events and planned on attending the Oscars too, but they’d almost certainly come face-to-face with Stewart since she’s a lock for a Best Actress nomination.”
Apparently, Meghan “figures they can just ignore Kristen or be briefly polite, but Harry’s not one to be fake and his nerves are still raw.” In fact, the duke is considering turning down the invitation over it, with the source adding, “He’s actually thinking about skipping the Oscars, but Meghan really wants back into the Hollywood scene.” [Note: Meghan is a super-successful actor so it makes total sense that she’d want to attend the event and support her peers!]
Spencer—which has been critically acclaimed in part thanks to Kristen’s amazing performance—covers Princess Diana’s last Christmas at Sandringham with the royal family before her split with Prince Charles and takes some pretty major creative license. The royals haven’t commented on the film thus far—but the Oscars are tonight, so we’ll see if Prince Harry shows up to watch it take home awards!
