TD Securities appoints co-leads for FIG Investment Banking unit

Dec 4 (Reuters) - Canada's TD Bank on Monday named managing directors Geoff Bertram and James Spencer to co-lead its global financial institutions (FIG) investment banking team.

Bertram has been at TD Securities, the unit which houses TD's investment banking business, for 12 years, while Spencer was recently at Credit Suisse.

As part of the expansion of its investment banking team, TD added six bankers in its FIG investment banking team. The bank also made hires in its global markets and research teams, it said.

TD Bank reported last week that it missed fourth-quarter profit estimates as it set aside bigger-than-expected funds to cover for potential sour loans.

The bank has bet big on U.S. markets in recent years. It bought U.S.-based boutique investment bank Cowen in a $1.3 billion deal last year.
