Tiger Woods’ Partnership With Nike, Which Reportedly Netted Him $500M, Has Reached An End After 27 Years
Tiger Woods’ longstanding partnership with Nike has come to an end after 27 years, ESPN reports.
Woods first signed with the athletic retailer in 1996 when he turned pro at age 20 following a successful playing career at Stanford University.
The five-year Nike deal was said to be worth $40 million and labeled the most lucrative endorsement deal secured by a professional athlete, ESPN notes.
Through his deal with Nike, Woods reportedly netted $500 million, according to Forbes. The feat happened while securing 15 major championship victories and 82 PGA Tour wins.
Woods’ growing fortune over the years led to him becoming the third athlete to become a billionaire, as AFROTECH previously told you. His net worth is an estimated $1.1 billion, Forbes mentions, thanks to tournament winnings and endorsement deals.
Now, Woods’ is turning a new leaf, but expresses gratitude as his longtime business agreement with Nike reaches its end.
“Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world. The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories, if I started naming them, I could go on forever. Phil Knight’s passion and vision brought this Nike and Nike Golf partnership together and I want to personally thank him, along with the Nike employees and incredible athletes I have had the pleasure of working with along the way. People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will certainly be another chapter. See you in LA,” Woods said in shared on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.

Nike also shared a statement via text message with Bloomberg:
“Throughout the course of our partnership, we have witnessed along with the rest of the world how Tiger not only redefined the sport of golf, but broke barriers for all of sport. We watched him set records, challenge conventional thinking and inspire generations of people around the globe. We are grateful to have been a part of it. We wish him the best in the future.”
