Time for Large Caps?

For the bulk of 2011 and early 2012 large caps were the best game in town. Then in mid-November 2012 there was a changing of the guard. From there small caps have clearly carried the torch for the stock market.

In the chart below, I compare the returns of the small cap laden Russell 2000 (^RUT) vs. the large cap oriented S&P 500 (^GSPC).

Flash forward to today (April 1, 2013). The S&P 500 is nearly a full 1% ahead of the Russell 2000. The Dow even looks better than that.

So is this a true change in the trend where large caps are now the place to be? Or is this just some brief rotation that won't last?
