A large area estate with ties to three prominent local families is on the market for $850,000.

Located on Buck Lake Road, the 4300 square-feet home sits on 20 acres and features three bedrooms, three and a half baths, an inground pool surrounded by fencing, a three-car garage, a barn, horse stables and an on-site pond. It has fireplaces in the primary bedroom, the formal living room and the formal family room.

Listing agent Kelly Vinson describes it as an "iconic property."

"Everybody knows it," said Vinson, founder of the Aspire Group at Keller Williams Town and Country. "It's not necessarily the house, which is really strange. It's that there were three donkeys and peacocks in the yard all the time."

More than two dozen peacocks, along with several donkeys, were often spotted on the property.

Vinson said the home was built in 1966 by Carl and Leroy Ferrell and was once home to three prominent families. Tom Brown, the late former county commissioner and coach with a park named in his honor, was the original owner.

It was later purchased by the Chenoweth family, which owned the Anheuser-Busch distributorship in Tallahassee. In 1993, the family sold it to Dr. Earl Britt Sr., Tallahassee's first Black cardiologist.

Vinson said he was known for his kindness and care of both people and animals. He often treated patients, even if they couldn't afford to pay, and would instead receive fruits, vegetables and animals.

"The home is ready for it's fourth family. It may be a family of one or a family of five or a family of 50," Vinson said, in her Facebook post about the property. "Maybe it will become land for multi-generations to grow together."

In an interview with the Tallahassee Democrat, Vinson said homes in the listing area can be built on three acre parcels and subdivided up to six times, which allows five other dwellings on the property. It's worth an estimated $1.4 million and in need of some repairs. Vinson said the listing price calls for an all-cash offer with the closing on or before April 4. As of Friday, there were four offers.
