Town Pump plans new store and casino in Thompson Falls
Sep. 6—One of the largest and most iconic businesses in Montana is set to become bigger and more iconic in Thompson Falls.
Butte-based Town Pump, which started in a single trailer and has spread throughout the state, recently announced plans to construct a new, larger store in Thompson Falls, replacing the existing convenience store, casino and gas station combo along Montana 200 on the town's western edge.
The new building, which will be built on land behind the current store and which has been the site of the Falls Motel, is expected to be completed by December 2024. The project will be open for bids this month to build a 10,100 square foot convenience store along with a 3,500-square-foot casino.
The existing store will be torn down as part of the overall project.
"The design and layout of the new store and Lucky Lil's Casino were customer-focused to enhance the experience of our customers, casino players and team members," said Dan Sampson, Director of Development and Construction in a press release. "The open concept design includes vaulted ceilings and skylights. Expanded product offerings will enhance the shopping experience for our customers".
The Thompson Falls project is similar in many ways to the project that replaced the existing Town Pump in Plains with a new, larger facility. The company is currently replacing the Town Pump in Troy, Montana with a new store as they continue to grow and update existing stores.
Brick and lapboard siding in earth tone colors with copper accents are planned for the exterior of the new store, with energy efficient lighting systems inside and out. Expanded interior space will allow for a larger delicatessen area. In addition, the stores will feature 42 cooler doors and an expanded selection of sodas, water, energy drinks, beer and wine, the press release states.
The expansion will also include 16 gasoline pumps and two diesel "islands" for customers whose vehicles use diesel fuel.
The casino will have 20 gaming machines in the new combo facility.
"Our team is so exited to watch the new and larger store be built," said Town Pump manager Anie Lowe. "Town Pump has been a part of Thompson Falls for 53 years and we look forward to being able to increase our product offerings and better serve our friends and neighbors in the future."
The company was founded in 1953 when Tom and Mary Ann Kenneally opened a gas station in Butte. Since then Town Pump has spread throughout the state with most locations offering convenience stores, casinos and gas pumps.
