MORRISVILLE, N.C. (AP) _ TransEnterix Inc. (TRXC) on Thursday reported a loss of $22.5 million in its first quarter.

On a per-share basis, the Morrisville, North Carolina-based company said it had a loss of 10 cents. Losses, adjusted for amortization costs and non-recurring costs, came to 9 cents per share.

The maker of surgical robots and medical instruments posted revenue of $2.2 million in the period.

In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, the company's shares hit $2.12. A year ago, they were trading at $2.08.
