The two-legged cat that will melt your heart

Get ready for your heart to melt from cuteness overload.

Meet Lil’ Bunny Sue Roux, or Roux, for short. She’s a confident and cool cat, living life on just her two back legs. Although the bunny cat was born without her front legs, she’s never let her disability slow her down. Roux is an inspiring advocate for special needs pets everywhere.

Roux’s human mom, Jackie Deak, who rescued the two-legged kitty from an animal rescue in New Orleans, said it was love at first sight. “I kind of said maybe we’ll foster her but as soon as I brought her home, both my husband and I knew that she was going to be ours,” Deak told the Dodo.

So why is Roux missing her two front legs? She was born without them due to a congenital abnormality, due to a rare condition called transverse terminal hemimelia. Her X-rays showed that her front legs stop at the humerus, the upper bone of the front leg. But her vet believes that she is fortunately not in pain. Her mobility is good and she is able to function well without front legs.

Deak started posting on social media about the newest addition to her family as soon as Roux got comfortable getting around the house. At first she was overprotective of 6-month-old Roux. She put pillows on every surface and kept her apart from her other cats. But after a few harmless nose bumps, Roux felt right at home. She’s learned to walk and jump like an absolute pro.

Her latest trick? Hopping up onto kitchen counters. Being different doesn’t faze Roux one bit, it’s all she’s ever known. She even has her own stuffed animal that looks just like her! She has teamed up with Golden Bell Entertainment to create a stuffed animal with little front paws and is standing on its hind legs, just like Roux. Roux’s plush animal is meant to inspire everyone around the world to be true to themselves, no matter what their differences may be.

Nothing can stop Roux from bouncing around like a kangaroo and giving little nub hugs.
