CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) _ United Fire Group Inc. (UFCS) on Wednesday reported a second-quarter loss of $4.2 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.

On a per-share basis, the Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based company said it had a loss of 17 cents. Losses, adjusted for investment gains, came to 59 cents per share.

The property and casualty insurance company posted revenue of $304.2 million in the period.

United Fire shares have dropped slightly more than 6% since the beginning of the year. The stock has declined slightly more than 8% in the last 12 months.
