Untitled Guy Ritchie-Jason Statham Action Film Sold at AFM
Miramax has sealed the seven-figure deal on Guy Ritchie's and Jason Statham's untitled action thriller at American Film Market earlier this month.
Deals have now closed with Studiocanal for Germany and Australia/NZ, Metropolitan for France, Tripictures & DeAPlaneta for Spain, Leone for Italy and Volga for Russia/CIS.
The deals have also been finalized with The Searchers for Benelux, Vertical for Eastern Europe, Eagle for the Middle East, VVS for Canada, Klockworx for Japan, Joy n Cinema for Korea and MovieCloud for Taiwan.
Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham Score A Film Deal
The project reunites Ritchie and Statham since "Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and Revolver" almost 15 years ago. The film was one of the hot properties at the AFM.
The film's plot follows a “cold and mysterious” character working at a cash truck company responsible for moving hundreds of millions of dollars around Los Angeles each week. The film shifts across timelines and between various character’s perspectives. Also starring are Scott Eastwood, Josh Hartnett and Holt McCallany.
The movie is currently in the early stages of production.
Film's Early Title Was "Cash Truck"
The film's early title was known as "Cash Truck" during the AFM but it doesn’t have an official title yet. Miramax’s Bill Block and Ivan Atkinson will produce. It was snapped up by Lionsgate for the UK.
“This movie is our second project with the renowned British filmmaker, Guy Ritchie, and we couldn’t think of a better partner to acquire the UK rights for this compelling new thriller other than Lionsgate UK,” added Miramax CEO, Bill Block, who recently sold Ritchie’s "The Gentlemen."
Other Productions Lionsgate UK Has Acquired
Lionsgate UK, also acquired acquired Gerard Butler thriller "The Plane" at the market, has previously released Statham movies including "The Mechanic", "The Expendables", "Hummingbird", "The Bank Job" and "Crank 3."
Miramax CEO Bill Block said in a statement via BuzzNet video,"Working again with Guy Ritchie on our second collaboration together alongside renowned actor Jason Statham is a priviledge."
Lionsgate UK’s CEO Zygi Kamasa said, “Guy Ritchie back together with Jason Statham is a film I’m first in line to watch so I knew we had to acquire it in the U.K.. We can’t wait to work with them both again.”
The armored truck heist movie from Miramax is an English-language remake of the 2004 French thriller Le Convoyeur, which featured Jean Dujardin (The Artist).
Ritchie, who made his feature debut has since directed such pics as "Snatch," "Rock'n'Rolla", "The Sherlock Holmes" franchise, "The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and King Arthur: Legend of the Sword."
Statham's notable film credits include "The Expendables," "The Meg," "Fast and Furious: Hobbs & Shaw and The Fate of the Furious."
