Utah unemployment rate drops to 5.4 percent

Another month of steady job growth in Utah with unemployment rate dropping to 5.4 percent

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Utah officials say the state's unemployment rate dropped to 5.4 percent for the month of September.

That's down 5.8 percent from August and more than a percentage point down from 6.5 percent in September 2011.

The data released Thursday by the state Department of Workforce Services shows that 73,100 Utah residents were out of work in September.

The data shows that Utah has added about 24,400 jobs over the past 12 months.
