Video shows Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett limping on sidelines before Michigan game
A video obtained by TMZ Sports shows J.T. Barrett limping following a collision with someone holding a camera on the Ohio State sideline on Saturday.
Barrett left the game vs. Michigan when he went down because of a right knee injury. According to coach Urban Meyer, the injury first flared up Saturday when Barrett was hit by a camera carried by someone on the sideline before the game.
The video, which you can view in full here, does not show Barrett getting bumped into. But you can see him hop away in pain, apparently after he was warming up on the sideline.
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was livid about the injury after the game, which Ohio State won. Barrett left the game in the third quarter until his knee gave way on a run. He was replaced by Dwayne Haskins the rest of the game.
Monday, Meyer said Barrett was probable for the Big Ten Championship Game vs. Wisconsin. Meyer described Barrett’s injury as his knee “locking up” and the training staff was able to make it so Barrett could play before reinjuring the knee in the second half.
Meyer also called for an investigation after the game but the school said Monday it’s not looking for the identity of the person holding the camera. Instead, it’s going to work with the Big Ten on better sideline logistics.
“The conference office asked us for our account of what happened,” Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith told ESPN. “The conference office is gathering data. That’s the extent of it. The outcome of it will ultimately be improved operations. There’s no attempt to try and find a person. The attempt is to find out what happened, what corrective measures we need to put in place. Urban has decided, which I agree with, that we have too many inside the box.”
The review by the league will be part of a wider review of facilities and accommodations in the conference. Michigan previously complained about the facilities at Purdue’s Ross-Ade Stadium and Smith told ESPN that Ohio State’s road accommodations earlier this year at Indiana were not up to par.
