VMware retreats after eBay reportedly pulls software

VMware (VMW) is sinking after Business Insider reported earlier today that eBay (EBAY) would stop using VMWare's software on about 80,000 servers. eBay will replace VMware's software with free, open source software called OpenStack, according to the website, which received the news from a board member of the OpenStack Foundation, Boris Renski. A co-founder of OpenStack consulting company Mirantis, Renski said that Mirantis worked with eBay subsidiary PayPal on the project, the website reported. In mid-afternoon trading, VMware sank $4.25, or 5%, to $75.90.
