Volkswagen begins operating first wholly owned battery pack plant in China - local govt

BEIJING (Reuters) - Volkswagen has begun operating its first wholly owned battery pack production plant in China in eastern Anhui province's capital Hefei city, the local Hefei government said on Tuesday.

Volkswagen Anhui will also begin mass-production of pure electric models based on the MEB platform by the end of 2023, the government said.

Total investment in the battery pack plant amounts to 1.5 billion yuan ($208.01 million), it added.
