BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Vulcan Materials Co. (VMC) on Thursday reported third-quarter profit of $276.5 million.

On a per-share basis, the Birmingham, Alabama-based company said it had profit of $2.07. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and to account for discontinued operations, were $2.29 per share.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.24 per share.

The construction materials company posted revenue of $2.19 billion in the period, also exceeding Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.18 billion.
