STEVENS POINT – Hobby Lobby is getting closer to opening in Stevens Point.

A company spokesperson confirmed to the Stevens Point Journal the store estimates to open in early May at the former Copps building at 5657 U.S. 10 E.

Hobby Lobby will begin hiring employees in April, the spokesperson said. Anyone interested can apply online. According to Hobby Lobby's website, the company will host a hiring event all week through Friday and are hiring employees to help set up the new location. The positions will start out as seasonal and temporary with the opportunity to continue full- and part-time.

Plans have been in the works for more than a year as the company worked through construction plans with city and state officials. Hobby Lobby confirmed last May it would open a 50,000-square-foot store. At the time, the store was eyeing a January opening, but as of earlier this year, the store adjusted its plan to open in early 2024.

Hobby Lobby is an arts and crafts retail store that offers a variety of home décor, art supplies, yarn, fabric, jewelry making supplies, floral items and more. Hobby Lobby first opened in Oklahoma City in 1970 and has since grown to operate in 48 states, including 26 in Wisconsin.

Hobby Lobby also opened in February at the redeveloped mall in Marshfield. For more information, visit hobbylobby.com.
