What's Texas football's record against new Big 12 opponents BYU and Houston?

The Big 12 has released its 2023 schedule with newcomers BYU, UCF, Houston and Cincinnati. Texas won't play all four of those teams this season, but will face BYU and Houston in place of longtime Big 12 teams Oklahoma State and West Virginia.

The Longhorns haven't played BYU in nine years and last played Houston more than 20 years ago.

Here's a closer look at each of the programs' history against Texas.

Houston vs. Texas: Longhorns lead the series

Texas has a 16-7-2 record against Houston. The teams first played way back in 1953, a game the Longhorns won at home 28-7.

The Cougars haven't won a game against Texas since 1991 when they won 23-14 on their own field. The Longhorns have won the last seven meetings, the last of which was a 41-11 home game in 2002.

The two teams face off again on Oct. 21.

Texas vs. BYU: Cougars have lost only once

The Longhorns have played the Cougars just five times and the team from Utah boasts a 4-1 record. They first played in Austin in 1987, a game that BYU won 22-17. BYU also won their last game, 41-7, in 2014.

The only time the Longhorns were victorious was in 2011 when they managed a 17-16 victory at home.

The two teams play as conference opponents on Oct. 28.
