Parents Spend $400 On Extracurricular Activities, Survey Says

As the back-to-school shopping season heats up, some parents overlook the unexpected expenses that arise throughout the school year. A new survey from RetailMeNot said that while the average family is expected to spend over $650 on back-to-school related costs, families will also spend almost $400 on extracurricular activities. To save money, work with your child to select a limited number of activities, to ensure they can be dedicated enough to the cause, while still having enough time for schoolwork. Your child may also be able to score a discount if they volunteer for the organization or sports league. Putting in a few extra hours here and there could result in a discounted rate.
