Parisians get their flats ready for Olympics rentals

STORY: How much will renting an apartment in Paris cost during the Olympics?

Parisian Martin Cassan will be renting out his one-bedroom flat for 330 euros a night during the 2024 Summer Olympics.

And he's certainly not the only one.

Many Parisians will be leaving the city when the tidal wave of visitors hits the French capital in late July, taking the opportunity to make some extra cash by renting out their homes.

"From what I understand, there will be a lot of people in Paris, plus it is hot in Paris during this period, getting around will be a little more difficult and it will be a bit more complicated to be in the city. I prefer to be where there are fewer people and where it's calmer."

330 euros per night is quite a price jump.

In April, Cassan's one-bedroom apartment will be rented out for 90 euros a night.

The flat is conveniently situated near a beautiful park, and it takes only 30 minutes to walk to Parc de la Villette, where several delegations will have their team houses during the Games.

Cassan will get around 45% of the nightly fee he will make after deducting accommodation operator Airbnb's cut, taxes and cleaning costs.

"If it's rented during the whole Olympics period, that's more than a month's salary that will arrive on its own."

Airbnb have said Paris 2024 will be “the biggest event in Airbnb's history.”

Paris, however, has strict rules on private renting.

Owners are allowed to rent out their apartments for a maximum 120 days a year.
