Stocks Open Higher on Housing & Inflation Data, Google Marks 10 yrs

U.S. Stocks are higher out of the gate on better-than-expected housing and inflation reports. Falling gasoline prices helped moderate the cost of food in July. The Labor Department said U.S. consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent. Home construction rose in July from the previous month. The Commerce Department reported construction on new homes snapped two straight months of declines at a 1.09 million unit pace. Last month, building permits also surged 8.1 percent. Home Depot (HD) is a stock to watch. The home improvement retailer reported second quarter results topping expectations. The company also raised its earnings full-year guidance. Today marks 10 years since Google (GOOG) IPO'd. At yesterday's close, the stock is up 976 percent in the last 10 years.
