Glory's Market in Jackson about to be torn down for Wawa and more stores

JACKSON - Construction fencing has gone up around Glory's Market, a township landmark, a precursor to the demolition of the building and construction of a Wawa convenience store.

The corner of Cedar Swamp Road and West Commodore Boulevard has been known as "Glory's Corner." It has been a grocery and liquor store for 50 years, but the Glorys have had businesses there for about a century.

In mid-2021, Dreamview LLC, a company comprised of members of the Glory family, won approval to divide the property, which sits at the corner of Cedar Swamp Road and West Commodore Boulevard.

A 4,736-square-foot Wawa convenience store with 16 fueling stations is to be built at the corner. Next door is a new 5,200-square-foot building for Glory's Liquor Mart, which is already under construction. Plans also call for an 8,500-square-foot pharmacy with a drive-up lane.

"In today’s day and age, it’s not easy (to run a small business)," Clara Glory, wife of Glory’s co-owner George Glory, said in a 2021 interview with the Asbury Park Press. "We decided a couple years ago that, with all of the offers, it was time to semi-retire." George Glory passed away in October 2023 at age 74.

A Wawa spokesperson could not reached for comment on when a new convenience store might be ready to open.
