The sneaker resale market is one of the few industries that hasn’t been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, with most Americans now working from home, the secondary market is booming. GOAT Group is one of the sneaker resale game’s top platforms, and it has shared its top-selling sneakers of 2020 with Yahoo Finance.
The Air Force 1 ‘White’ from 2007 was GOAT’s best selling sneakers for the year. The iconic shoe, a staple in any sneakerhead rotation, was the platform’s best-selling sneaker overall but was not the top-selling shoe in any specific month.
The Year of Jordan Brand
Much like he did on the court, Jordan dominated the competition when it came to resale market sales. Ten of the top 11 sneakers of 2020 were Jordans, and only one non-Nike shoe made this year’s list — that honor went to January’s top pick, the Adidas (ADDYY) Yeezy Boost 350 V2’ Yeshaya Non-Reflective.’
A GOAT Group spokesperson tells Yahoo Finance that the success of Jordan models this year can be attributed to the success of the ESPN documentary Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls “The Last Dance.”
“When the documentary launched in April 2020, we immediately saw a 76% week-over-week increase in Jordan sales, including retro styles that were featured in the docu-series. This growth steadily increased as the year went on. The Last Dance helped propel Air Jordans to our best selling brand since May 2020. With two highly anticipated Jordan releases in November (Air Jordan 4 Retro ‘Fire Red’) and December (Air Jordan 11 Retro ‘Jubilee’) - GOAT is further positioned to have an extremely strong end to the year.”
According to GOAT Group data, Jordan brand saw a 79% sales YoY.
Top-sellers by month
GOAT also released its top-selling shoe list for each month of 2020, and Nike’s (NKE) Jordan brand reigns supreme.
