I read competitor Livent's (LTHM) Q1 Earnings Call last night and it has reinvigorated my enthusiasm. They predict the market for hydroxide may already be short by the second half of this year. If ALB says the same thing at 8AM, we could get a nice pop today.

LTHM: "As battery producers expanded their hydroxide based battery lines in 2020 they diversified their supply to include new sources of hydroxide that had come online in 2019 and 2020. However, it is clear that not all of these suppliers have been successful in this qualification process resulting in an even more rapid tightening of battery qualified hydroxide markets with most battery qualified production capacity already sold out and limited new qualified capacity scheduled to come online there is an increasing risk that this market becomes structurally short in the second half of 2021.

In addition to qualification issues, the supply side continues to have its fair share of challenges. While many companies, ourselves included, have resumed previously paused or delayed expansion plans, there is little ability to expedite the timelines to bring online new production. Put differently, every day that an expansion is on hold adds at least a day to the point at which it will stop [Phonetic]. Even with today's operating assets, the challenge to meeting demand in the next 12 months alone is growing with continued operating restrictions driven by COVID-19, global supply chain disruptions which are likely to continue into the second half of this year and gradual but consistent near-term demand forecast increases from customers. These supply demand dynamics are having an acute near-term impact, but the supply pressures will continue to build before they start to ease and our forecasts suggest that they will persist and even increase over the next few years."

Another confusing day. On the good side earnings were a beat to estimates and close to peak. Even with a pandemic, semiconductor shortage and Washington waffling. On the bad side… To be honest I don’t see a bad side to justify this funk but it may just be running out of steam in the short term and some are taking their toys and going home. I suspect ALB will recover in a few weeks. Fundamentals still look good to me.

Stock reacts this way to a good quarterly report? I'd hate to see how ALB would react to a bad report. What's going on here?

What did they say during the earnings call for this type of price movement?

    Outlook looks good.
Albemarle has a volume challenge in its lithium and bromine businesses, with executives saying on a call about quarterly results the company is sold out for those products for the year and it doesn't have excess inventory in stock.

Relax this one is going to go higher. If you have some extra money pick up some and thank them for the gift. You don’t have to be a meteorologist to see where this storm is heading lol

Demand is picking up sharply. AH is meaningless. As soon as this current rotation/profi taking phase is over it will head higher. No brainer.

ALB gets the go ahead from Chile to expand their high yield lithium operation in that country. Big profits ahead. Stock goes to $300 by year end.

Another fine day for Lithium stocks.
Tesla announces 2021 Q1 earnings today after the close, and an earnings call at 5:30 PM. Revenue should be solid, while analysts are expecting slightly down YOY earnings. I don't follow it closely enough to question, but the combination of lower S/X sales and ramping factory construction seems like it would weigh a bit on earnings. On the other hand, sales of CO2 credits do seem to continuously be on the rise.
I will probably watch the call, but not that hopefully of anything exciting...

Galaxy and Orocobre to merge. Interesting. I think we may start to see some consolidation in the sector as minors get gobbled up and larger producers seek to strengthen their position.
