What are some stocks that you can buy or at least get ready to buy, like PepsiCo , if you are of the opinion that the world really is slowing and the Fed can't change the equation? The first is Estee Lauder Companies . Here is a company that is run by one of the best executives I have ever met, Fabrizio Freda, late of Procter & Gamble , who has taken this prestigious brand and made it the most-loved makeup company around the world.

With Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) scheduled to announced second-quarter results on Tuesday, it's worth remembering that when the bank surprised investors a stronger-than-expected first-quarter profit, WFC stock trended lower on a reduced profit outlook. It is also worth noting that Wells Fargo stock is at the same level as it was at the beginning of 2019. Charles Schwab told employees it's scrapping an annual trip to Hawaii or other popular destinations for high-performing employees, saying the event was rooted in “a different era” and now poses “significant reputational risks,” the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a company email to employees. In place of next year's trip to Hawaii for about 200 employees, the company will give those making the Chairman's Club an after-tax check for $5,000 and a paid week off. Ending the Hawaii trip reflects how no expense is overlooked in an era when Schwab faces pricing pressures from a new generation of competitors, such as Menlo Park-based Robinhood, with commission-free stock trades and margin rates on most loans about half of what Schwab charges.

For me, it captured perfectly the dilemmas facing the Federal Reserve as it decides by how much it should cut interest rates at the end of this month (yes, it's not a question of whether they will cut but by how much). While the US economy faces “cross currents,” it remains in a “good place” (using two of Chairman Powell's favorite descriptors) – that is, domestic economic momentum is able, at least for now, to overcome headwinds from slowing growth in the rest of the world, trade policy uncertainties, and increasing currency tensions. U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said Wednesday that crosscurrents such as trade tensions and concerns about global growth have been weighing on the U.S. economic activity and outlook.
At the time of writing, Bitcoin (BTC) is trading just above $10,200 after losing 25% of its total value since last week. Although last week I said I expected Bitcoin to consolidate a bit more above $11,400, it seems the market pulled a fast one and BTC went further down to the $10,000 region. Also, Bitcoin's market dominance is already above 65%, going towards 70%.

A simple yet effective way to screen for stocks that are potential buys is to see if the insiders are buying shares after the price has dropped. There are many reasons why a company insider may be motivated to sell their stock, but there is only one reason why an insider would buy it! They believe that it will trade at a higher price where they can make money.

About a year ago, I coined the high-growth STARS acronym on InvestorPlace, saying that these five growth stocks — Shopify (NYSE:SHOP), The Trade Desk (NASDAQ:TTD), Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE), Roku (NASDAQ:ROKU), and Square (NYSE:SQ) — are the high quality, big return potential stocks that investors want to buy now and hold for the next several years. The idea behind the STARS acronym was simple. The market's favorite high-growth acronym — FANG, which comprises Facebook (NASDAQ:FB), Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX), and Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOG, NASDAQ:GOOGL) — was becoming increasingly obsolete for investors.

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) topped out at a record high of $139.54 earlier, and while it was last seen 0.1% lower at $138.74, the software giant is still holding above the one-trillion-dollar market cap level. MSFT will stay in focus this week, with earnings due after the close this Thursday, July 18, and while call options have been in high demand ahead of the event, not all of the activity appears to be of the bullish kind. General Electric earned a Wall Street downgrade on interest rates and power challenges, but analysts still see sentiment about the industrial giant shifting from survival to a multiyear turnaround. The tariffs that President Donald Trump has slapped on Chinese imports haven't sparked the widespread return of manufacturers to the U.S. that Trump envisioned. About 41% of American companies are considering moving factories from China because of the trade war, or have already done so, but fewer than 6% are heading to the U.S., the American Chamber of Commerce in China said in a recent survey. Companies are largely eyeing Southeast Asia and Mexico.
