HPCL to start Rajasthan refinery by end-Dec using mostly Mideast oil

Hindustan Petroleum Corp plans to start operating its new 180,000 barrels per day Barmer refinery in India's desert state of Rajasthan by end-December using mostly Middle East oil, its head of refineries S Bharatan said. The state-run company expects the refinery to reach full capacity in about a year's time, Bharatan told Reuters in an interview. "The new refinery can process 100% heavy grades so we will buy Middle Eastern heavy oil and will also bid to buy Mangala oil as we have a dedicated pipeline from the field to refinery," he said.

Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserve signs deal with Hindustan Petroleum to lease space

Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserve Ltd (ISPRL) has signed a deal with Hindustan Petroleum Corp to lease 300,000 metric tons of storage space for three years in a Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) in Vizag in southern India. ISPRL operates three SPRs in southern India with combined capacity of about 5 mln tonnes. "In line with partial commercialisation policy of the government, we have leased out space to HPCL," Lakhpat Rai Jain, chief executive of Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves said.

India plans to halve the amount of equity investment to $1.8 billion for 2023/24 to help fund three state oil refiners' green energy projects, four government and industry sources said, as the federal government seeks to curb its fiscal deficit. Asia's third largest economy, facing an over 40% shortfall in collecting revenues from stake sales in state-run companies, is prioritising spending to try to limit its fiscal deficit to 5.9% of GDP for this fiscal year to the end of March. State-run Bharat Petroleum Corp and Hindustan Petroleum Corp aim to end net carbon emissions from their operations by 2040, and Indian Oil Corp has set a target for 2046.

Indian refiner HPCL meets up to 23% of oil need with Russian grades

Indian refiner Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd is meeting up to 23% of its oil needs through discounted Russian grades, its chairman Pushp Kumar Joshi said at the company's annual shareholder meeting on Friday. Indian refiners, which rarely used to buy Russian oil, have been snapping up discounted barrels after many Western countries shunned purchases from Moscow following its invasion of Ukraine. HPCL's Russian oil intake is limited by the configuration of its refineries, Joshi said, but the company is maximising the use of these cheaper so-called opportunity crudes, he added, helping "ringfence" it from risks arising from high oil prices.

India's HPCL gets bids to lease part of Chhara LNG terminal

India's Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd has received six or seven bids from industries to lease a part of its Chhara liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal on the west coast, the LNG unit's chief executive said on Monday. HPCL aims to commission the terminal, with a planned capacity of 5 million metric tons per year (tpy) in the December quarter, K Sreenivasa Rao told reporters at an event. "We have received six or seven bids, and in the next three months, we should be able to decide on the award," Rao said.

India's HPCL aims to run Vizag refinery at expanded capacity from early 2024

India's Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) hopes to operate its 15 million metric tonnes per year (tpy) Vizag refinery at full capacity early next year after commissioning some new secondary units geared to upgrade fuels, its head of refineries said on Thursday. In March, the state-controlled refiner raised the crude processing capacity of the Vizag plant, located in Southern India, from 8.33 million tonnes per year by replacing an old unit with a new 9-million-tonnes-per-year crude unit in March, S. Bharathan told reporters at an event.

India's Hindustan Petroleum posts biggest jump in quarterly profit in 9 years

Indian state-owned oil refiner Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd on Friday said it posted its biggest quarterly profit in nine years, helped by a fall in crude prices and higher refinery margins. Net profit for the fourth quarter ended March 31 jumped about 80% to 32.23 billion rupees ($394.1 million) from 17.95 billion rupees a year earlier, according to a stock exchange filing. Indian refiners' crude oil processing stayed near all-time highs in March, catering to solid seasonal demand as fuel consumption jumped to a record high, driven by robust economic activity in the world's third-largest oil consumer.
