Aviva isn’t a bad business. The group generated a return-on-equity of 14% last year and paid a £1.2bn dividend that was comfortably covered by surplus cash. However, I think Aviva’s share price is being held back by two problems. One concern is that the business hasn’t delivered consistent growth in recent years.

Insurers are in for a hard time. Claims will go up, investment income will fall, as dividends are scrapped, life insurance payouts increase, hundreds of businesses close forever. Tough times ahead.

Good time to buy fairly defensive and good divi
J
the reason for buying the share at the moment is long term profit. true the Divi is not being paid at present, yet that will change in the future. the BOD will at some time have to reward holders of the stock, and the so will rise. I am looking possibly 3 years in advance, what an oppo to buy more stock at these prices

Dividend for the foreseeable future really in doubt.. see Bank of England request today to suspend payments.
