California toy mogul Isaac Larian says his pursuit of the Wayne, N.J.-based company may be at an end.
Moody's Investors Service, ("Moody's") downgraded Mattel, Inc.'s ("Mattel") senior unsecured guaranteed notes due 2025 to B1 following the announcement that the company will add-on an additional $500 million to the issue to prepay $500 million in unguaranteed notes due May 2019. While the transaction is leverage neutral and strengthens the company's liquidity profile, it will result in less unguaranteed debt to absorb losses ahead of the now larger guaranteed facility.
Isaac Larian, the toy mogul behind Bratz dolls, has been at odds with Mattel Inc. for more than a decade. Mr. Larian recently offered to merge his MGA Entertainment Inc. with Mattel and put himself at the helm of the combined company, according to correspondence reviewed by The Wall Street Journal and people familiar with the matter. Mattel rejected the approach, which lacked details or financial terms, according to the documents.
