Earnings, Fedspeak, jobless claims: What to watch

Thursday will see a slew of earnings reports from companies including: Philip Morris International (PM), ConocoPhillips (COP), AstraZeneca (AZN), Take-Two Interactive (TTWO), Kellanova (K), and Pinterest (PINS).

Richmond Federal Reserve President Tom Barkin will be speaking on Thursday after Boston Fed President Susan Collins said Wednesday that interest rates cuts could come "later this year."

Jobless claims will be released for the week ending February 3rd, with economists forecasting a slight decrease from the previous week.

JOSH LIPTON: Time now for what to watch Thursday, February 8, on the earnings front. Philip Morris, Conoco Phillips, AstraZeneca, Take Two, and Kellanova all-- and Pinterest, by the way-- all reporting tomorrow. Pinterest will be in focus after we've seen mixed results from social media companies this earnings season. Meta reporting a blowout quarter last week. And while there was hope Snap would follow suit, that was not the case and the stock plunged. So Wall Street will be watching to see how Pinterest now stacks up against the competition.

JULIE HYMAN: Moving over to the Fed, Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin will be speaking again tomorrow. This coming after Boston Fed President Susan Collins said cuts could come, quote, "later this year." She is the second Fed official to use "later this year" language in as many days.

JOSH LIPTON: And taking a look at the job market, jobless claims are out ahead of the open. And economists are forecasting a slight decrease from the prior week.
