Wynn Resorts, Mattel, Disney: After-hours movers

In this article:

Shares of Wynn Resorts (WYNN) rose in after hours trading. The resort and entertainment company posted fourth-quarter results that topped Wall Street expectations.

Mattel's (MAT) fourth-quarter results missed analyst estimates. However, the company's full-year adjusted profit outlook was better than expected.

The Walt Disney Company (DIS) made some big announcements on its earnings call, including that a standalone ESPN streaming platform will launch in 2025. The company also revealed that Disney+ will also be the only place Swifties will be able to watch "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version)" and that a new "Moana" film will hit theaters later this year.

JULIE HYMAN: Let's take a look at what's trending after hours. We start with Wynn Resorts, the casino operator rising after reporting an earnings beat for the fourth quarter. The rise in net income primarily driven by the increase in operating revenues from Macau and Las Vegas. Operating revenues also topped analyst estimates for the quarter.

And I'm looking at Mattel here as well. The company reporting a rise in profits for the fourth quarter, but missing Wall Street estimates. Sales for the quarter also slightly missed estimates. The company is set to launch a new cost savings program focused on profitable growth as well as expecting to improve profitability and continue share repurchases in 2024. And Mattel, by the way, also coming out with a gross margin forecast for the full year ahead of estimates. Its earnings forecast also leaving it room to beat estimates as well.

And finally, Disney, which we talked about earlier, coming out with a slew of announcements on its conference call following its earnings beat in the first quarter and its forecast, as well, that was ahead of estimates. The company says it's going to roll out a standalone ESPN streaming platform in fall 2025. It's also going to be the sole streaming home of Taylor Swift Eras Tour Taylor's Version. That's going to be exclusive to Disney Plus starting next month.

And later this year, a new animated Moana sequel is going to hit theaters. Disney CEO Bob Iger also saying the company will prioritize dividends and buybacks. You excited for "Moana 2"? I'm excited. I really liked "Moana". I got to say. It was really good.

- I trust your call on that.

JULIE HYMAN: Have you not seen it?

- I haven't seen it. No. Not yet. No.

JULIE HYMAN: Oh, you're in for a treat, my friend.

- Sounds like a date. I'm there.
