Shares of Helen of Troy Corp. jumped 4.3% in premarket trade Tuesday, after the consumer products company reported fiscal second-quarter profit and sales that were well above expectations and raised its full-year outlook. Net income for the quarter to Aug. 31 rose to $44.0 million, or $1.66 a share, from $8.9 million, or 33 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Excluding non-recurring items, adjusted earnings per share came to $1.98, beating the FactSet consensus of $1.59. Sales increased 14.1% to $393.5 million from $344.9 million, above the FactSet consensus of $349.2 million, as housewares sales grew 19.4%, health and home sales rose 20.3% and beauty sales fell 4.2%. The company, which brands include Vicks, Braun and Hydro Flask, raised its fiscal 2019 revenue outlook to $1.535 billion to $1.560 billion from $1.485 billion to $1.510 billion. The stock has soared 27% year to date through Monday, while the S&P 500 has gained 7.9%.
